I first set out on this journey of beginning my Celtic Mythology Series to keep in touch and learn more about my own personal Irish history. I grew up spending Summers in Derry Ireland visitng family and historical sites. Because of Irish dispora and historical erasure I wanted to learn more about the forgotten Celtic Mythologies. For the great Greek Hercules and Zeus is famous throughout the world but I wanted to shine a spotlight on Irish, Scottish and Welsh Mythologies of the past. I set out on bringing them back to life conceptualizing and illustrating these long fogotten folktales, myths and legends.
Celtic Mythology Series
My Celtic Mythology Series explores and illustrates Irish, Welsh and Scottish Mythology and brings it to life thorugh the copper plate Intaglio Printmaking Process. After “Cernunnos” the Stag began this artistic and introspective journey it has been an ongoing series.
Cernunnos
The Initial Concept Sketch
I started the initial concept sketch using my intuous tablet and photoshop. What I like about this technique for conceptualizing is the intuous tablet replicates real life pecil and paper skills but onto a digital medium. It makes it faster to resize and flip and edit correctly or undo if there is a mistake. I drew this Cernunnos stag in mind with the fact I would be eventually etching and printing this image so I would have to do that in reverse on the plate so it would print correctly.
First Drypoint Print on Plexiglass
For my first attempt at printing “Cernunnos Stag” I tried a Drypoint Printmaking technique on Plexiglass.

Copper Plate Etching
Next I wanted to try Cernunnos Stag as an Intaglio Etching my preferred and favorite medium. With Copper Plate Etching not only could I get more prints from a plate but now I could explore different color inks and paper.

Zodiac Series
My Zodiac Series illustrates the entire twelve Astrological Signs (Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius and Pisces) through the Copper Plate Etching technique.
Sacred Feminine Series
My “Sacred Feminine” Series takes powerful iconic women in History, Literature and Mythology and brings them to life through the process of Copper Plate Etching Intaglio. This Series includes “The Third Eye”, “Mother Nature”, “Tempus Fugit, Vanitas Vita” and “Inbetween the Soul & Soft Machine”
